We
tend to think of our mind as residing in our brain but there
is ample scientific evidence to suggest a different view.
That our mind permeates our entire body and that the brain
is simply the control center. This then explains how every
living cell responds instantaneously to every thought we have.
This is another example to demonstrate
these points. This woman was having repetitive nightmares
of this giant spider. The giant spider represented her fear
of spiders. Now there are no real spiders in the dream but
her body and mind were reacting to an imagined spider, but
she did have a real fear of the spiders based on real life
experience. So the subconscious mind reacts to all thought,
it does not discriminate.
The way the woman dealt with the
situation was to do some desensitization training. She would
have a relaxation period every day, and when she felt relaxed
she would imagine that there was a tiny spider in the corner
of the room. Over a period of time she imagined the spider
getting closer and closer, until she imagined it crawling
on her.
She eventually dreamt of the giant
spider chasing her, but now instead of reacting with fear,
she turned to the giant spider and laughed. Immediately the
spider shrank to a tiny spider and then she laughed again,
the spider ran and hid behind a curtain.
This shows that you can reinstruct
the subconscious reaction to a thought through conscious effort.
It also gives us some more understanding of how the subconscious
works. It communicates to the conscious mind with pictures,
feelings and emotions, etc the fear or laughter. It also shows
the importance of dreams to communicate important information.
