When
you're in a stress state your mind is in a Beta state of consciousness,
in this state your mind is speeded up and thoughts come form
everywhere. If you look at the electrical activity of the
brain in this state, the neurons are firing off randomly throughout
the cerebral cortex. This is very inefficient, mental energy
is dissipated without focus or control.
When you're relaxed or in a creative
thought, your mind switches into an Alpha state of consciousness.
In this state all your neurons are firing together. This is
a much more focused, and powerful state. This is a state of
mind that allows very good communication between the conscious
and subconscious mind.
The Beta state is analogous to
having the spark plugs in your car firing randomly, causing
the pistons in the engine to work against each other. A car
in this state has a fraction of its potential power available,
it jerks along and is terrible to drive. In the alpha car
all the spark plug timing would be perfect, the car would
purr, be a pleasure to drive and would have its maximum power
available to the driver.
Which car are you driving? Positive
thinking is an advanced driving course. The Beta state generates
lots of random thoughts, these thoughts all have emotion associated
with them. The emotion of the beta state is of a primitive
nature, fear, anxiety and nervousness or anger, aggression
and hostility.
