This
is all very fine if the event was a pleasant experience, your
subconscious will reproduce all the pleasant sensations and
emotions and the experience will give you a life. But if you
are constantly recalling a traumatic experience you will be
reliving it over and over, with all the emotional pain and
suffering of when it first occurred. What a waste of personal
resources. Memory is meant to be a resource to aid you, as
a means to prevent pain and suffering, not to create it!
Lets look at an example of two
boys aged about five who suffer a similar experience of burning
themselves on a hot stove. One of the boys uses the memory
of the experience correctly and learns to be careful around
stoves The other boy does the same
but constantly relives the memory of the traumatic event.
Throughout his life he relives it thousands of times, blames
his mother for not being careful enough, constantly blames
the event for making his life unhappy. The truth of the matter
is that the event no longer exists, it is the past! What does
exist is the constant replaying of his memory of the event
and his memory is his personal view and creation.
One of the boys learned from the
experience and moved on. The other created a lifetime of unnecessary
misery and suffering for himself and the people around him.
The memory was simply supposed to be a resource of information
gained from the experience to be careful around a hot stove!
